Please Press Hard But Not Too Hard

The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) trains tomorrow’s medical leaders in the osteopathic approach to medicine, treating a patient's body, lifestyle and behavior as a whole.  PCOM was looking for a way to teach doctors performing physical manipulations in a consistent and repeatable way, and the PPS FingerTPS system was the solution.

The FingerTPS, or Fingertip Tactile Pressure System records and displays finger and palm pressures exerted during treatment. This gives instructors a benchmark with which to train, and gives students a means for evaluating the pressures they exert. By combining PCom’s classroom know-how with PPS’s technology, we created a quantifiable system for what was previously a subjective measurement.
