![]() Revolutionizing Early Detection of Breast Cancer Recognizing the need for an accurate, low-cost device to complement existing options for breast cancer detection, Medical Tactile, Inc. sought to use tactile sensing to detect differences in tissue hardness, one of the key indicators of cancerous lesions. In order to do this, MTI needed a tactile array sensor with unparalleled sensitivity and repeatability. Using our TactArray technology, MTI has produced SureToch, the world's first FDA-approved device using tactile sensing for breast cancer documentation. PPS engineers developed a T2000 configuration giving performance nearly 5 times more sensitive than the human sense of touch in detecting subcutaneous lesions. The T2000 forms the key enabling technology for the BreastView Visual Mapping System, which received FDA approval in February 2003. PPS will continue to work with MTI and leading clinicians to develop SureTouch, a TactArray-based handheld device that will use Tactile Imaging for breast cancer screening.
