Stretchable Boot Fit

A European manufacturer of custom boot and shoe insoles wanted a sensor that would visualize in real-time the benefits of their real-time custom fitting system, but no sensor existed that could stretch around the foot as it settled into the mold. PPS, however, was up to the challenge.
  
Our client wanted to visualize the elimination of pressure "hot spots" on the foot as the mold material stretched to form a custom insole shape. The problem was finding a sensor that could undergo the extreme deformations around the edge of the foot without adversely impacting performance. To accommodate this requirement, PPS developed the Stretchable Tactile Sensor that can stretch by up to 10% linearly (20% by area) without compromising sensor performance to create a powerful imaging tool.

While PPS continues to develop the overall visualization platform, our new tactile array stretches the limits of tactile sensing.
