About Us

Pressure Profile Systems, Inc. (PPS) designs and develops the world’s most advanced systems for measuring distributed tactile pressures. Our core technology was originally conceived at Harvard University in 1996 and subsequently enhanced through funding from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, Army Research Laboratory, and National Institutes of Health.

Driven by R&D clients, PPS designs tactile pressure sensors in nearly any shape, form and performance characteristic. Our instrumentation and OEM capabilities have helped customers achieve important improvements in product performance, optimize their manufacturing processes and create new products that capture the sense of touch in the fields of medicine, robotics, industrial and consumer product design, and manufacturing quality control. Our solutions also offer industry-leading sensitivity and repeatability with a vast range of options for design. The company’s custom Chameleon software displays synchronized video, 3D pressure profiles or 2D color maps, TiVo-like functionality in playback, editing and manipulation of data sub-sets.

PPS' newest instrumentation product, the wireless FingerTPS (Finger Tactile Pressure Sensing) system, was unveiled to the public at the 2008 Industrial Virtual Reality Expo in Tokyo. FingerTPS sensors are soft, flexible units worn on the hands which capture and transmit accurate, repeatable tactile force data to a PC via wireless Bluetooth connection. FingerTPS tactile data with integrated video provides a complete representation of user interaction with tools, sports equipment, new product designs, or medical applications. Other PPS instrumentation systems include RoboTouch for providing a sense of touch to robot grippers, TactArray for measuring distributed tactile pressures with a USB interface, ConTacts for tactile force measurements with analog output, and PresStrip for linear pressure measurement.
