Embedding the Sense of Touch PresStrip Trimmable Strip Sensors Our new PresStrip sensor will feature a linear strip of pressure sensors that is trimmable to a desired length. With a maximum length of 10 inches with 1cm sensors, our PresStrip sensor can be cut to match your specific application. PresStrip sensors are based on our DigiTacts technology, which means they are suitable both for PC-based data acquisition and embedding into larger systems. Embedded Wireless Sensors As mobile applications become more and more critical, PPS is developing ways to transmit tactile data using standard wireless protocols such as BlueTooth, ZigBee, or Wireless USB. Such wireless sensors could be coupled with mobile phones to provide remote health monitoring or broadcast process control data from a handheld probe in a manufacturing plant. Tactile Input Devices Touch input devices are found in many of today’s consumer electronics, such as the scroll wheel used in popular portable music players or the trackpad featured on laptop computers. By replacing conventional touch sensors with tactile sensors, the additional dimension of force measurement opens up exciting new possibilities for human-machine interaction. We envision a more sophisticated input device using tactile input that enables significantly more functionality, necessary for tomorrow’s converged devices that combine extended functionality with less space available for control inputs. PPS is currently developing TactileButtonTM and TactilePadTM technology. To find out more, please contact us.
